The proposal is a building consisting of apartments facing from North to South. The entrances to the apartments and the communication cores are located in the Northern area, adjacent to Calle del Puerto de la Bonaigua. The plot has two pedestrian entrances from this street, the first at a height of 620.2 at street level, and the second at a height of 610, at the top of some steps.
The North façade contains the bedroom windows and the steel tubes that cover the common areas. This façade is skin-like, consisting of a ceramic pixelated design that fades as it goes upwards and plays with the glazing and the transparencies of the metallic elements. The South façade, which is also pixelated, consists of the large vertical gaps formed by the balconies/ clothes-drying areas adjacent to the sitting-rooms. These gaps, which are filtered by the same metallic tubes used in the vertical communication cores, occupy several floors and emphasise the sensation of verticality in the construction, by altering the typical scale of a building of these characteristics.

A block of apartments that is two gems that are carved and wrapped in a transparent skin that seems to be made of paper. Because it’s a freestanding construction, we decided not to differentiate between the façades. Therefore the construction resembles two gigantic rocks wrapped in paper in the middle of a green belt. It is a big sculpture-like building not unlike the chimneys in a thermal power plant, ordering and hierarchising the surrounding public space. The fact that the main rooms face southwards allows for a better energy performance in winter. The cross ventilation in all of the apartments and the existence of the balconies that act like solar parapets in summer mean that the building is more pleasant than others in hot weather and do not need any special cooling. All of these decisions made at the project stage enable energy savings throughout the year.

Block 39 will house a series of buildings intended for scientific study. These buildings will be constructed over an undetermined period of time. We should therefore design an “urban growth system” that provides for possible changes in programme and size throughout the years, a flexible system that may be adjusted at any given time, with the capacity to grow along the terrain and in height. So as to obtain the maximum flexibility, in addition to thinking about a possible organisation of thoroughfares on the land, we have designed a Pattern, a genetic code that functions on both the urban and “domestic” scale. Our proposal is a scientific response, coherent and organised, a machine that may be configured an infinite number of times on every scale in order to cover all future changes and possibilities.

Temporary venue for holding events during holiday periods. This construction is demountable and transportable. Two types of pieces can give rise to an infinite amount of spatial solutions depending on the shape and size required. The pieces, which are made of a paste composed of recycled and compressed wood, are sold in packs of 270 units. Users will buy the packs that they need to make their personalised Sukkah which will be unique and different from all others.

Through a process of abstraction, we transform the physical area of the competition into a LINEAR MATHEMATIC DOMAIN that enables us to study and relate all the data that occur to us. The terrain is redrawn into a system of one-dimensional coordinates each time it is necessary to study a parameter. This way, we obtain different domains that may be related to each other. Through a vertical reading, as though this were the dial on a radio, we are able to analyse what parameters coincide, and under which circumstances, in order to better understand the potential and the possible needs of the terrain. After studying the different performance rates of each installation according to the meteorological and agricultural parameters of the area, we believe that the greatest energy performance could be obtained from the interaction of all types of mechanisms. The old motorway would become a giant ecological MACHINE for producing non-contaminating energy.

Due to its importance and location, the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center is called upon to change the image of the city of Kaohsiung. Hence, more than just a group of modern constructions suited to the purpose, our proposal is a set of elements that reflect what we consider the main traits of pop and maritime culture in their forms and use allocations. The project we are presenting is composed of a series of structures, the forms of which represent aquatic organisms and pop culture icons. The ensemble emerges as a huge seascape: a coral reef, the scale and configuration of the elements of which may be seen from many points in the city.
